Welcome to PoliTOcean! This page walks you through everything you need to get started as a new member.
π Lost? Ask your Head of Division (HoD) or write in the team chat β no question is a stupid question.

Make sure you have access to (ask your HoD or the Comm department if you don't):
- [ ] Team chat (Slack / Discord / WhatsApp β whichever the team uses)
- [ ] GitHub β send your GitHub username to be added to the PoliTOcean org and your division's team
- [ ] Google Drive / shared storage β design files, documents, datasheets
- [ ] Team email (
politocean@gmail.com) β only if your role needs it - [ ] Lab / workshop access at the Politecnico (badge / keys)
2. Get to know the team¶
- Read the Organization & Divisions page to understand how the team is structured and where your division fits.
- Read the Processes & Conventions page before your first contribution (especially the Git workflow).
- Browse the GitHub repositories relevant to your division.
3. Set up your tools¶
Depending on your division you'll need different software. A few common ones:
| Area | Typical tools |
|---|---|
| Software / Firmware | Git, VS Code, the toolchain for your project (ROS 2, PlatformIO, STM32CubeIDEβ¦) |
| Mechanical | CAD (SolidWorks / Fusion 360), shared Drive for parts |
| Electronic | KiCad / Altium, datasheets repository |
| Comm & Marketing | Figma / Adobe suite, social media access |
See your division's section in Organization & Divisions for the exact stack.
4. Your first contribution¶
- Pick a small task with your HoD/ToD.
- Follow the Git workflow: branch β commit β PR.
- Ask for a review. Iterate. Merge. π
